Party Time in York, PA

Fan Fest To Raise Funds for NIP

Clay Aiken fans will gather in York, PA, this weekend for the 2011 Fan Fest that promises lots of fun, in-person activities for online friends during two jam-packed days of fundraising for the National Inclusion Project, charity co-founded by the singer in 2003.

Hosted this year by
Cookie (Diane Knappy), the fest kicks off at the Yorktowne Hotel at 10 a.m. Saturday and continues through noon Sunday. Contests, clack, caricatures, live and silent auctions, raffles, good food, fun, and fellowship are on tap for the special weekend.

Visit Fan Fest website for full details. Flier will expand.

Activities at the 2010 Fan Fest generated a $3,000 contribution for the National Inclusion Project, and the 2011 chair hopes to top that figure.

Among the special guests in York, PA, this weekend will be Faye Parker, Clay's mother, who will speak briefly about the work of the Inclusion Project, and the Claymobile with new owner Nancy LaFave, who won the car in a special auction at the 2010 NIP Gala.

The Claymobile will be available for pictures with attendees. Originally owned by Cookie, the automobile's history can be read in a Saints, Legends and Goddesses blog entry by
Scarlett.

Current and past owners with the Claymobile in Raleigh.

"I have tried to create a weekend event that is all about the fans," Cookie explained in an email. "We are a great bunch and have so much fun just being together, sharing memories, making new friends, meeting old friends, and just having a down right fun time!

The 2011 Fan Fest website contains registration, schedule, and contact information if you would like to join the party in York.

Y'all have fun!

Twitter Helps Rescue Laptop

In case you missed it, an amazing play-by-play mystery unwound on Twitter in real time Thursday when a Canadian author/tech consultant's laptop was taken and he was able to track and recover it remotely with the aid of social media participants and his Prey software.

Not only did Twitter members sit at their computers and watch the story unfold, but several also participated in the recovery. Using tweets, Brandon Ballenger organized the story in his Storify blog: Man tracks stolen laptop, calls thief
.

You can catch up with this fascinating stream of events by reading the tweets organized in the blog. Once again, true life is stranger than fiction!

Have a wonderful week, Clay Nation!

The station's goal of 200+ contributors Saturday night was easily met with fans from 18 states and four countries donating to UNC-TV. On the final break, the number of contributors stood at 236.

Clay Aiken: Tried & True ~ LIVE! Preview
View video full screen at YouTube.

For 'Tried & True' Telecast

UNC-TV Plans Special Shindig

Clay Aiken and his fans will party down Saturday night when the singer's celebrated special kicks off the UNC-TV SeptemberFest pledge drive.

Premiere telecasts of Clay Aiken: Tried & True ~ LIVE! are slated for 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Several members of the Clay Nation have volunteered to answer pledge drive phones, but two lucky fans will be there as a special guests of
UNC-TV on Facebook.

To celebrate Clay Aiken and all the FB fans who love him, we're offering a Sept. 11, UNC-TV tour and "meet and greet" with Clay for our 4000th fan and the person who recommended them.

Those who can't be in the studio can watch the concert on television and keep track of the fun at the "Tried & True Twitter Party" planned from 8 - 11 p.m. Follow @UNCTV on the Twitter social network.

Among the activities planned are live tweeting of Clay photos, videos, and trivia. Fans from around the globe can join the fun by logging into Twitter with the hashtag #unctvclay.

Clay Fans Become UNC 'Likers'

If you haven't already become a "liker" of UNC-TV on Facebook, you need to do so right now. The 4,000th fan will win a tour of the studio and have a Meet & Greet with Clay.

If the station doesn't reach 4,000 fans by the Friday deadline, the UNC-TV fan with the most mutual friends who are also UNC-TV fans will win. If the 4,000th fan cannot be present at Saturday's telecast, he or she can gift the prize to a friend who can.

The Clay Aiken: Tried & True - LIVE! concert special has been airing on PBS stations throughout the nation since July 31. In the concert, Clay performs iconic songs, including "Mack The Knife," "Unchained Melody," "Moon River," "Crying," and "Build Me Up Buttercup." Guest stars are Linda Eder and Ruben Studdard.

As you can see in the Carolina sidebar, Houston, TX, is another city in countdown mode to Clay Aiken's PBS Special this week.

Because the singer is scheduled to be in the KUHT-TV studios for Wednesday's 8:30 p.m. telecast, several Houston area fans have volunteered to answer pledge phones for the PBS station. Future airings are slated for 2:30 a.m. Friday and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The National Inclusion Project serves to bridge the gap between young people with disabilities and the world around them. Supporters are voting to secure a $50,000 grant during September's Pepsi Refresh Challenge.

Canadian Finds Way To Help

Throughout the Pepsi campaign, Clay Aiken fans from other countries have been left out. Monday From Claygary posted ways that non-US citizens can help with the project:
Last night I went through my "liked" pages on Facebook. (Profile/Info/Likes and Interests).

Lots of them are pages where I can post a note on their wall. On an intermittent basis, I will post a note asking for their help as well. Probably a weekly post with the necessary voting link, info. Among the "likes" on my list are:

1. Christie Cookie -- they helped us last year, and I'm sure some of the staff would be happy to vote for the National Inclusion Project.

2. The Voice - Linda Eder's newsletter. Maybe they would include the information?

3. Casey Thompson Music - definitely!

4. Quiana Parler and Friends - definitely!

5. Ornamentea.com, a local Raleigh store.

6. ground ctrl ... why not?

7. Morgan's Wonderland, an entertainment facility in Texas for children with disabilities. Wouldn't they be interested?

The Sparkle Effect, teen cheerleader organization awarded a grant by the National Inclusion Project in 2009 for their work with young people with disabilities, has also been suggested as a group to contact. No doubt they would be willing to help, and teen texting skills are through the roof!

Hopefully, these suggestions spark several more ideas of people and organizations to contact for voting assistance in the National Inclusion Project's September campaign for $50,000.

Have a wonderful week, Clay Nation!

Clay Aiken's TNT Promo Takes Off

Decca reveals new TNT cover. (High resolution edit by cindilu2)

Label Requests Fan Opinions

'Tried & True' Train Leaves Station

The "Clay Aiken: Tried & True" promo train is leaving the station!

In the past two days, Decca Records has replaced the CD's cover photo and begun constructing the singer's page at the label website.

Decca has even asked @ClayAiken fans their opinion about the new TNT cover art via Twitter. As expected, the CA fandom's responses are running the gamut. One person asked what happened to Clay's green eyes; others offered additional editing suggestions; and another hinted for a single soon!

At the New Music Tipsheet, there are three specific "Tried & True" listings for June 1: a CD, a CD-DVD combo (deluxe edition), and a DVD.

The Clay Aiken page at Decca's website currently includes the cover shot and several fan "reviews." Biographical info and news will be added, along with media, photos, and a player that stands ready to help promote selected tracks of the new TNT album.

Cindilu2, Kareneh, ClaySTO, Cotton, and SueReu are among the visual artists who expanded and/or edited the new cover. Their clickables/double clickables are posted below:

Tornado Talk Starts Music Lessons

When music students returned for piano/violin lessons after Spring Break, several who had been in the path of the Triad's Palm Sunday tornadoes first had to to share their storm stories. Having lived in West Texas for several years, their teacher has a few of her own.

In 2008, I included recollections of the Lubbock Tornado of 1970 in a Carolina blog. Warnings that I should get to the storm cellar went unheeded, and I unwisely rode out the center of the F-5 storm in a mobile home.

One of the most interesting twists of the this tornado occurred at the Lubbock Club where my husband, a Texas Tech student at Texas Tech, worked as maitre d' part-time.

Betty, keyboardist in a duo performing at the Lubbock Club, was using a wonderful old fake book that my husband had discovered in a long-forgotten pile in a symphony rehearsal hall.

Patrons and employees alike had evacuated the Lubbock Club in haste the night of the tornado.

A month later when the musicians returned for the club's reopening, Betty apologized for just leaving that wonderful old book of tunes on the organ.

She was flabbergasted when Mr. Caro explained that the tornado had apparently closed the book and placed it safely beside the organ pedals.

I still own the infamous fake book, which this week served as a great segway from tornadoes to the music at hand.

Have an awesome weekend, Clay Nation!

Caro

Jukebox Playlist Provides Clues

Fans need look no farther than the very popular 2005 Jukebox Tour for clues about possible tracks for the new album. Message board supposition is indeed in full swing!

A fan favorite throughout North America, the Jukebox Tour featured Clay, a seven-piece band, and three back-up singers performing music of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, with tracks from the Measure of a Man album, and some new songs being considered for the second CD.

Slow tempo, up tempo, you name it -- Jukebox Tour videos are an excellent source for deliberation while fans await album news and snippets.

The JBT 50s medley included such favorites as "The Great Pretender," "Only You," "That'll Be the Day, "Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay," and "Unchained Melody" plus an entire segment devoted to Elvis.

Among the songs in the 60s collection were "Downtown," "Can't Buy Me Love," "Sugar Sugar," "Happy Together," "Solitaire," and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

Scruffy13 blended videos from various concerts to create the montages includes in this blog: the 50s Medley opener and the thee-part 60s medley. For those who have never seen Clay converse with an audience, the fourth video provides a glimpse.

The Decca Decade is off to a rip-roaring start. No doubt the JBT rewinds provide a starting point for speculation -- that is, until the next nugget arrives on Twitter or Facebook.

In the midst of CD/PBS celebrations, fans are remembering their Haitian neighbors. Visit UNICEF and help spread the word to citizens of the world who would like to help. Link others to this Haiti Earthquake PSA video.

SueReu's excellent montage Haiti - Give the Gift of Life Through UNICEF is accompanied by Clay's "Grace of God" vocal.

Have a wonderful weekend, Clay Nation!

New Decca Chapter Blasts Off

During down time, Singer Man's fans reminisce about past performances, stream, vote, chat, share favorite videos, photos, graphics, even recipes.

All the while, alert sentries maintain Internet vigils via Google, Twitter, and other news/social networking sites for any hint the tide might be turning. In the late afternoon of Aug. 27, a simple tweet -- Just met Clay Aiken! -- sounded the alarm throughout Cyberspace.

Within minutes, message board sleuths knew the twitterer's name, rank, and serial number: Drew Farrar, music publicist for Decca Records in New York City. Ten minutes later Clay's new label posted a photo via TwitPic of the singer with David Novik, head of A&R for @deccalabelgroup.

Global Fan Response Surprises Decca

Views at the TwitPic site, which hit 10,000 by midnight, are closing in on 32k. Fans discovered YouTube video blogs in which Novik was interviewed about the music business. Twitter and TwitPic were flooded with excited comments from fans from around the globe.

Faithful Japanese fans chimed in at TwitPic: All the Clay fans from Japan are looking forward to his new music. Please get him to come over to Japan!

Apparently surprised with the outpouring of excitement from CA fans worldwide, Decca at Twitter responded with this tweet:

With apologies to VP Novik, visual artists immediately converted Clay's portion of the pixels into graphics, banners, avatars, and other designs. The clickables are by AmazingCA, Fountiandawg, and cindilu2.

The Clay Nation bids 2009 a fond farewell and knows the best is yet to come! Bring on 2010!
